Evening of Generative AI
Language models, Haystack & brushstrokes
Program
A varied program with two exciting talks awaited us at the inovex office in Cologne. The first talk was about the development of applications using the Haystack framework, the ease and flexibility of integrating state-of-the-art language models into projects.
The second presentation dealt playfully with the art of faking “Master of Art Forgery”, a browser game that not only challenges creative skills as an art forger, but also takes a look behind the scenes of generative AI.
Venue
The meetup took place at the inovex office in Cologne, which is located in the historic “Kupferhütte” brick building on the Carlswerk site in Cologne-Mülheim.
Speakers and talks
Talk 1: Building LLM applications with Haystack (Florian Teutsch, Phuong Mai Mai)
The field of Generative AI has seen tremendous growth in recent times. The technology landscape opens up many opportunities to integrate cutting-edge tools into our applications. Large language models (LLMs) enable various tasks such as answering questions, summarizing content and semantic search.
This talk was about the practical principles of creating LLM applications. Haystack is an open source framework that can be used to create custom applications with modern LLMs. Thanks to its simplicity and flexibility, it can be used to store and query domain data.
The core of the talk will be practical insights into the framework, in particular an overview of the Haystack components and how they work together. In addition, the challenges of modern LLMs and how to deal with them were also addressed.
Talk 2: Master of Art Forgery (Pascal Fecht & Nicolas Werner)
The game “Master of Art Forgery“, developed by students, showed in an impressive way how art forgers can use generative AI. With the help of a browser game, you are given pictures and you have to paint them as well as possible – i.e. forge them. The game uses generative AI and you also learn about prompt engineering and the technologies behind it.
